Another Glance at Translation: Remarks from the Perspectives of Communication and Culture

Translation is the communication of the meaning of a source-language text by means of an equivalent target-language text. During the communication process, the quality of translation is determined by a continuum of factors, which generally include proficiency of languages, comprehension of cultures, and employment of communication techniques.

The lecture will present the opportunity to discuss some translation-related issues from the perspectives of communication and culture, intending to shed some light on the questions:  Why do errors occur while translating meanings from a source language to a target language? How should translators minimize and even avoid the errors in translation process?  The lecture is given with the aim to develop junior translators’ ability of logical and critical thinking for coping with the main vulnerabilities in translation.
